Thank you for your interest in doing corrections work. The approval process may be completed in a few months.
Lake County Jail requires all volunteers to complete a course on the “Prison Rape Elimination Act. (PREA)” This is an on-line course that concludes with a test. A downloadable certificate is presented to those that pass with a score of 80% or more.
That certificate must be submitted with the rest of the documents necessary to the application. In addition to the certificate, copies of the front and back of your driver’s license and a screenshot of the “Lesson Module Status” must be submitted.

A study guide, sample test questions and instructions for enrolling in the course are included in the “Prea Test Instruction” document.
When completed, email all the documents to GCruz@lakecountyil.gov or mail to Gabriel Cruz, Inmate Program Manager, 25 S. Martin Luther King Dr. Waukegan, Il. 60085.
