Service to Others

Personal service to other recovering alcoholics is a huge part of the AA Traditions.  We are always reminded of our primary purpose – to remain sober and help the alcoholic who still suffers.

Group Service

This can be something as simple as greeting other members or setting up for a meeting.  AA members can also volunteer for service positions such as providing refreshments, chairing a meeting, or serving as a group treasurer or GSR.

District Service

District Committees and their services to members are listed here.  District committees welcome member volunteers.  You do not need to be a group GSR to volunteer for district committees or volunteer for special events.

Area Service

NIA District 10 is one of many districts which make up Northern Illinois Area 20.  Our area serves AA members in the northern third of Illinois from Lake Michigan to the Mississippi River.  NIA 20 has many of the same committees as NIA District 10 with opportunities for members to serve a greater number of recovering alcoholics.  The Northern Illinois Area conducts special events throughout the year for which volunteers are always needed and welcome.

Regional Service and National Service

Areas send a delegate to the General Service Conference (GSC), which is the decision making body for Alcoholics Anonymous in North America.
